Welcome to the Open Space Alliance

The Open Space Alliance is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to promote public awareness and conservation of Open Space lands, and to educate the public about the natural, historic, cultural, educational, and recreational aspects of Open Space areas.

Vision: Residents and visitors will understand and value Albuquerque’s Open Space Program, and recognize the Open Space Alliance as an avenue for stewardship and engagement.

Mission: OSA will enhance the experiences of all users of Albuquerque Open Space lands by providing financial support for Open Space programs; by advocating for sustainability and expansion of Open Space programs; and by encouraging increased public involvement with and use of Open Space lands.

Albuquerque’s calligraphy society Escribiente, the New Mexico Book Arts Guild Libros, the New Mexico State Poetry Society (NMSPS), the Open Space Alliance, and dozens of local poets and artists have come together for this unique art exhibit and day of spoken word poetry.

This year’s featured poets include Albuquerque Poet Laureate Michelle Otero, Megan Baldrige, Dale Harris, Don McIver, Donald Levering, and Scott Wiggerman.

Enjoy live jazz with Albuquerque’s own “Last Call” and outstanding views of the Sandia Mountains and the Rio Grande bosque, followed by spoken word and visual art through the Visitor Center’s grounds and galleries.

The Open Space Visitor Center hosts an art exhibit featuring some of New Mexico’s best poets and calligraphers. Haiga is a form of Japanese painting with simple imagery typically accompanied by a Haiku poem.
