Placitas Open Space

WHY IT’S OUTSTANDING

The Placitas Open Space consists of 560 acres of rolling hills, arroyos and a portion of Las Huertas Creek. The creek is ephemeral and flows after heavy rains or a good snow melt. Vegetation in the area is comprosed predominately of piñon-juniper woodland. Be on the lookout for wild horses that travel between the Open Space and surrounding BLM land.

HOW TO GET THERE

Take I-25 to Placitas (Exit 242). Take Highway 165 east to Camino de las Huertas for 2.75 miles to Palomino and turn left. Follow Palomino until it ends at Llano del Norte. Head west and stay on this dirt road for 1/2 mile. Follow it through an opening in the fence where it will take a sharp left. Go through the drop gate and continue until you see the Open Space sign.
